Junior Accountant / Bookkeeper

Are you a experienced bookkeeper who loves business, embraces technology, and enjoys solving problems? We’d love to have you on board!
We started out offering strategic FD services and process optimization for growing businesses with £1m+ turnovers. As demand has grown, so has our offering—we now provide a fully outsourced finance function, including management accounts, company secretarial, bookkeeping, payroll, and year-end services.
As we continue to grow, we’re looking for someone who’s highly organised, delivers excellent customer service, and genuinely enjoys making systems and processes better. Yes, you’ll be handling the day-to-day tasks like bank reconciliations and invoice processing, as well as month end and management accounts - but this role is more than ticking boxes. You’ll be expected to manage your own time, solve problems proactively, and make smart decisions along the way.
You’ll need solid experience with Xero bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and preparing accounts up to trial balance.
We’re a digital first business, and helping our clients adopt finance software and tech is a big part of what we do and is a key part of this role. You must be inquisitive about systems and keen to try new things.

We are considering full time or part time applicants (minimum 20 hours per week, must be over 5 days)

Based in our Leighton Buzzard office with option to work from home on a Wednesday (after initial training/induction period).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping including raising sales invoices, Purchase ledger & bank reconciliations

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and reporting for small limited companies

  • You will proactively identify and implement system and process improvements for clients, helping to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and support their growth.

  • VAT Returns & Reconciliation

  • Payroll

  • Preparing payments runs

  • Credit Control

  • Performing month end reconciliations of balance sheet control accounts including intercompany & fixed assets

  • Preparing and posting accruals and prepayments

  • Supporting the finance manager and FD with financial analysis, budgeting, forecasts and acquisitions.

  • Supporting in the preparation of year end accounts and tax returns.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • At least 3 years bookkeeping experience

  • AAT/ACCA/CIMA part qualified is desirable but not essential

  • Proficient in using Xero, Dext & Hubdoc

  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and practices

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively

  • Good Excel – VLOOKUP’s, pivots and sumifs are a minimum requirement

  • Salary £25,000 to £30,000 depending on experience
